@number10gov John Lewis capitalism could be achieved through PAYE

Many companies operate a share option scheme, which, while not a john Lewis partnership, does involve employees in the success of the Company.

Such a scheme could be regularised by making it enforceable in the same way that the National Insurance stamp was originally intended to pay for Pensions and Health.

Workers, paying into this new scheme, would hand over a weekly/monthly contribution, which, instead of disappearing into the Treasury’s communal fund, would be used to buy tranches of shares, but without the option of being able to cash them in until reaching pensionable age.

The management fees for handling these shares, would need to be capped and independently monitored by the relevant Employers and Unions etc.
