optronics

The transphasor, a light operated version of the transistor, has been waiting in the wings for ages.

It has been easier to advance the semi-conductor technology rather than move into this area, but now, apparently, further advance is being stymied by the heat output of this technology.  (newsletter from Fullermoney)

I expect that before long we’ll be seeing optronics taking off.

It uses glass instead of Silicon, Copper, Gold etc., so we could see commodity prices drop for these and for those used in batteries.

We might even see new forms of televisual devices.
