On Question Time, the panel was asked about the nurses rebuff of Cameron’s proposed “reform” of the NHS.
He pointed out that the seeds of the present situation was created along with formation of Foundation Hospitals. He also more or less said that the intent, throughout successive Governments, has been the ultimate privatisation of NHS hospitals etc. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b010j5ck/Question_Time_14_04_2011/)
He might have gone further and pointed out that all Governments, since Thatcher’s “Tell,Sid” campaign, have been following the mantra of the John Smith Institute and selling-off State-owned (i.e. paid for through public taxes) assets , at basement bargain prices, to private, profit-making organisations.
Most of the audience did show a remarkable awareness of what these politicians were actually saying when they declared that they would listen to the comments being made. Most of the audience showed a well justified cynicism in believing that they would plough on regardless of those comments.
The politicians know that the public knows that this will happen but they also know that they will sit and take it, because the British Public don’t go in for Revolution.
